What"s Surrogacy

Gestational surrogacy is the process whereby a woman – the gestational surrogate – consents to an embryo copy process, otherwise called an IVF Procedure. In this technique, an embryo (or plural embryos) deriving from the couple acquiring the surrogacy service is implanted in the surrogate. If the procedure is successful, the surrogate becomes impregnated with the child of the couple (the expected parents). The level of engagement with the surrogate thereafter is absolutely up to the intended parents – typically, the couple is associated with the initial IVF treatments, and being present at the moment of birth of their child. They then assume responsibility for the child post-delivery and make the permanent changeover to legal parenthood.

What"s IVF

IVF is something women choose opt for when they are experiencing problems with infertility. The conventional IVF involves the removal of the human oocytes from the ovaries and the fertilization process, accomplished by “letting" motile spermatozoa to fertilize the oocytes into a particular culture medium. This means that once embryos are formed, they are transferred into the uterine cavity through a process called Embryo Transfer. IVF is employed to imitate the biological processes, in vivo.

IVF is used for women who"ve blocked or harmed fallopian tubes, thus stopping the egg and sperm from meeting naturally. IVF may also help you and your partner if your infertility is unexplained and/or the male partner has a low sperm count. Other factors like mature age endometriosis, immunology, obesity and mindset may lead a couple to infertility. IVF could be the option for you if these factors come into play at this stressful time in your lives.

IVF Timeline

Step 1: Follicular Development and Monitoring

During a woman"s normal menstrual period, LH and FSH are the hormones that the body uses to activate development and maturation of an individual oocyte. In order to optimize your pregnancy rates during IVF, it"s important to severa tmature oocyte for fertilization, embryo development and transfer into the uterus. The ovaries are therefore stimulated using higher levels of the stimulating hormone that naturally exist within you. This is achieved using Gonadotrophin injections. Numerous stimulation regimes can be found at the moment, and the doctor chooses the one best suited to your biological system, to be able to achieve a great number of high quality oocytes. Close monitoring of the follicles (the sacs that contain the growing oocytes in the ovaries) is required and it is achieved with recurrent ultra-sound to be able to ascertain their size and their quantities. At the correct timing, more hormones will be administered, aiding with the final maturation of the oocytes. Predicated by all the available reviews and laboratory results, the best time for the restoration will be identified.

Step 2: Oocyte Recovery

This is the procedure by which the doctor collects the oocytes of the female body, a procedure requiring anesthesia. A little needle enters the top portion of the vagina, through the assistance of the ultrasound, into the ovary"s follicles. The fluid that is aspirated will then be taken to the laboratory, where the oocytes will be reviewed and transferred into culture media in an incubator at 37oC to continue the maturation process for a few more hours.

Step 3: Fertilization of OOCYTS

In this stage, your partner will have to give his sample of sperm on the day of the oocyte restoration which will be preserved until needed). His sperm will be carefully prepared with a particular technique and the healthy spermatozoa separately. There are about 100,000 motile spermatozoa added per oocyte, with 4-6 hours after oocyte restoration. This is in order for the fertilization to take place within the following 12-18 hours in the incubator. The insemination process will lead to the fertilization of the oocytes, and resulting embryos are transferred to different culture media to be observed closely over the next 48 hours.

Step 4: Embryo Transfer

Top quality embryos are chosen and are transferred through the womb using a little catheter on the basis of their rate of progress and morphology. The number of embryos that will be transferred is decided according to the age and health background of the potential mother; alongside the number and quality of the embryos that have been released during each therapy cycle. For each couple, there is a possibility of having more than one child. Embryo transfer is a painless technique, much like having a cervical smear, and fortunately takes just a few minutes. Once the task has been completed, we highly recommend a brief resting period in the recovery room. The day after, oocyte retrieval progesterone and other supplements will be given to ensure that the lining of the uterus receives sufficient stimulation and sustains the implantation of the embryos. Quantitative pregnancy tests with blood must also be done 12-14 days after embryo transfer.
