What"s Surrogacy

Gestational surrogacy is the procedure whereby a woman – the gestational surrogate – consents for an embryo transfer process, otherwise called an IVF Procedure. During this process, an embryo (or plural embryos) deriving from the couple acquiring the surrogacy service is implanted in the surrogate. If and when the procedure is successful, the surrogate becomes impregnated with the child of the couple (the planned parents). The level of participation with the surrogate thereafter is completely up to the intended parents – typically, the couple is associated with the initial IVF treatments, as well as being present at the moment of birth of their child. They then assume responsibility for the child post-delivery and make the long term changeover to legal parenthood.

What"s IVF

IVF is something women choose to undergo when they are having difficulties with infertility. The conventional IVF involves removing the human oocytes from the ovaries and the fertilization process, achieved by “letting" motile spermatozoa to fertilize the oocytes into a special culture medium. Which means that once embryos are produced, they are moved in to the uterine cavity through an activity called Embryo Transfer. IVF is used to imitate the biological processes, in vivo.

IVF is chosen for women who have blocked or broken fallopian tubes, thus preventing the egg and sperm from meeting naturally. IVF also may help you and your spouse if your infertility is unexplained and/or the male spouse has a low sperm count. Other factors like mature age endometriosis, immunology, weight problems and psychology may lead people to infertility. IVF can be the option for you if these factors enter into play during this stressful time in your lives.

IVF Timeline

Step 1: Follicular Development and Monitoring

Throughout a woman"s normal menstrual cycle, LH and FSH will be the hormones that your body uses to encourage development and maturation of an individual oocyte. To be able to optimize your pregnancy rates during IVF, it"s important to have more thatn one tmature oocyte for fertilization, embryo development and transfer into the uterus. The ovaries are therefore activated using higher amounts of the stimulating hormone that naturally exist within you. This is achieved using Gonadotrophin injections. Numerous stimulation regimes can be found at the moment, and the physician chooses the main one suitable to your biological system, in order to achieve a good number of high quality oocytes. Close monitoring of the follicles (the sacs which contain the growing oocytes in the ovaries) is required and it is achieved with regular ultra-sound in order to ascertain their size and their amounts. At the correct timing, more hormones will be administered, aiding with the ultimate maturation of the oocytes. Predicated by all the available reviews and laboratory conclusions, the most suitable time for the restoration will be identified.

Step 2: Oocyte Recovery

This is the actual procedure where the doctor collects the oocytes of the female body, a procedure necessitating anesthesia. A little needle enters the upper part of the vagina, through the guidance of the ultrasound, into the ovary"s follicles. The substance that is aspirated will then be taken to the lab, where the oocytes will be determined and moved into culture media in an incubator at 37oC to continue the maturation process for several more hours.

Step 3: Fertilization of OOCYTS

In this step, your partner will have to give his test of sperm on the day of the oocyte restoration which will be conserved until needed). His sperm will be carefully prepared with a special process and the healthy spermatozoa separately. There are about 100,000 motile spermatozoa added per oocyte, with 4-6 hours after oocyte restoration. This is for the fertilization to occur within the following 12-18 hours in the incubator. The insemination process will lead to the fertilization of the oocytes, and resulting embryos are transferred to different culture media to be viewed closely over the next 48 hours.

Step 4: Embryo Transfer

Top quality embryos are chosen and are moved through the neck of the womb using a little catheter based on their rate of development and morphology. The number of embryos that"ll be transferred is set based on the age and health background of the potential mother; alongside the number and quality of the embryos that have been released during each therapy cycle. For every couple, there is a possibility of having several child. Embryo transfer is a pain-free process, much like having a cervical smear, and thankfully takes just a few minutes. After the job has been completed, we highly recommend a short resting period in the recovery room. One day after, oocyte retrieval progesterone and other supplements will be given to ensure that the lining of the uterus receives sufficient activation and sustains the implantation of the embryos. Quantitative pregnancy tests with blood also needs to be done 12-14 days after embryo transfer.
